Because facelifts are among the best-known plastic surgery procedures, many people immediately think this procedure is the ideal surgical solution for them. Although a facelift can help many patients, some people may not need the full procedure. If your primary concerns are sagging skin under your chin, fat deposits on your chin and neck, or neck bands, a neck lift in Atlanta by Dr. Theresa Jarmuz could be the best option.
Dr. Theresa Jarmuz is a board-certified facial plastic surgeon offering a variety of surgical and minimally-invasive facial cosmetic procedures. Improvement in your neck and chin can be accomplished in several different ways. In most instances, Dr. Jarmuz will combine these methods to give her patients optimal results. In addition, neck lift procedures are often combined with a facelift for rejuvenation of the mid to lower face.
Traditional Neck Lift
A neck lift, technically called submentoplasty, involves an incision hidden approximately one inch beneath the chin. With this incision, loose skin and neck muscles are tightened, excess tissue and fat are removed, and a 90-degree angle is restored.
As an alternative or supplement to a traditional neck lift, facial liposuction can be used. This method is particularly effective for younger patients with stubborn fat pockets in their face and neck that may not be caused by aging. A small incision is made below your chin, through which a cannula (tiny tube) will be inserted and used to remove excess fat.
If sagging skin is not exclusive to your chin and neck, another facial surgery procedure such as a facelift, brow lift, or eyelid surgerycan be combined with your neck lift. Dr. Jarmuz performs neck lifts with almost all of her face lift surgeries.
