Patients at our Atlanta, GA, medical spa who want to minimize acne scars or other skin damage can improve skin tone and texture with microneedling. At Buckhead Facial Plastic Surgery, we use Rejuvapen™, a handheld device that uses tiny microneedles to create carefully controlled injuries to the skin. The body's natural healing process responds by producing collagen, an essential element of smooth skin.
For more information on our microneedling skin care treatments, request a consultation to meet with double board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Theresa M. Jarmuz using the online form. Or you can call her office at (404) 233-3937 to schedule an appointment.
Before your procedure begins, a topical anesthetic is applied to the treatment area to minimize any discomfort. Once it's safe to proceed, the Rejuvapen is applied. Because the Rejuvapen micropigmentation system is adjustable, Dr. Jarmuz can easily customize your treatment based on the condition of your skin.
The 9 needles in the Rejuvapen penetrate at different depths as it moves across the treatment area, stimulating the skin's natural healing response. Multiple treatments are needed to produce the desired results.
Immediately after microneedling, you can expect some tenderness and redness in the treatment area. It usually resolves on its own within a day or 2 of the treatment. The results emerge gradually as the new collagen develops. A series of 3 treatments is usually recommended, but many patients choose to schedule additional treatments as they see the improvements in their skin's tone and texture.
If microneedling isn't the right treatment for you, Dr. Jarmuz offers a range of other skin rejuvenation therapies to improve the appearance of wrinkles, acne scars, and other skin damage. Ultherapy® and laser skin rejuvenation are our most popular alternatives.
