Got Wrinkles? Consider Sculptra®

Most people have heard of BOTOX® and dermal fillers for getting rid of wrinkles and other signs of aging. However, at Buckhead Facial Plastic Surgery, we are particularly fond of a unique filler called Sculptra Aesthetic. We use it for our Atlanta patients who want a gradual, natural-looking, long-lasting facial rejuvenation. Dr. Jarmuz is a national trainer for Sculptra Aesthetic, and the #1 injector in Georgia, so it’s safe to say our practice is very knowledgeable about this unique injectable. In this blog post, we’ll share some of that knowledge with you.

What is it?

Like Restylane® and JUVÉDERM®, Sculptra is an injectable product. Unlike fillers, Sculptra is a collagen stimulator. The active ingredient, poly-L-lactic acid, helps to stimulate the production of your skin’s own collagen—a fibrous protein in the deep dermis. Collagen is a key component of smooth, healthy-looking skin. Unfortunately, as we age, our collagen production decreases.

What sets it apart from other wrinkle remedies?

Most dermal fillers are made from hyaluronic acid and add immediate volume upon injection. The product gradually breaks down over time—typically 6 to 12 months—and the added volume goes away unless you are re-treated. Unlike fillers, Sculptra works subtly and gradually over time. Sculptra’s unique formulation helps stimulate your skin’s own natural collagen production. This helps to restore the skin’s inner structure and youthful volume, with long-lasting results.

What can you expect after treatment?

After treatment, some patients experience minor redness, swelling, or bruising at the injection site. These are temporary and are easily concealed by makeup.

The improvement is gradual and natural-looking. After about 3 treatment sessions and a few months, your skin will begin to appear smoother, firmer, and younger-looking. The results last at least 2 years, which is significantly longer than other fillers.

It is important to find a skilled and experienced injector. Otherwise, treatment can result in asymmetry, overcorrection, under correction, and other complications. Because of Dr. Jarmuz’s extensive training and experience with this unique product, she is able to achieve remarkable results for our patients. Visit our photo gallery to see for yourself.
