The Procedure

The derma rolling device looks very much like a tiny paint roller. Instead of paint, however, the roller is covered in micro-needles. The needles prick your skin as the roller is moved over the areas you'd like to target, so gently that is does not draw blood. Your skin will interpret these pin pricks as wounds and begin the healing process, producing collagen and gradually reducing the appearance of acne scars.

Unfortunately, some people have decided to try to perform derma rolling for themselves at home. While this may initially seem like a good money-saving technique, it can be dangerous and produce less than satisfying results. Derma rolling is a procedure that should always be performed by a skilled professional, a professional with extensive experience with delicate facial skin.

For severe scars, dermabrasion or surgical scar revision may be necessary. However, for mild acne scars, other non-surgical methods such as injectable fillers may be used; keep in mind, though, that fillers can provide only temporary improvement.
